I actually agree. I was thinking that during the Olympics. She’s such an amazing gymnast with the most beautiful form. But when she got off, it’s almost like she said f* it and didnt fight. Like her mind says, perfect or not at all. Nothing like The Liukin Beam Save

this is back. I love this resourcefulness so much. Although clearly it was a reaction, but a pretty samurai-style reaction to have.

All these gifs of people just now discovering Lilia Podkopayeva’s brilliance has made me ill, and at the same time curious. What would tumblr have been like in the 90s?

Oh god, imagine the gymternet after the 1992 Olympic AA had it existed.

ugh eyeroll. It should be a good thing that more people are discovering amazing older gymnasts, not something that makes you ill. A lot of the people discovering her might not even have been alive when she competing or could be new gym fans. We should be happy that more people are caring about the amazingness that is gymnastics, not discouraging it and acting like hipsters when a song they knew first gets popular.
#and the gymternet would have been hilar in the 90’s

The First Mo Salto in international competition in over 16 years.

Seems like the ever changing code has demanded that gymnasts streamline their routines more and more. Mo salto, some variation whoohoo!

Really hating the new rule about no breaks in the corners!

Me too. I rather see a gymnast just stand there like normal for a few seconds rather than watch them stand awkwardly on one foot. Plus I think it’s safer to let the gymnasts catch a breather and focus before tumbling.

So true, and I think it also builds suspense in the routine because you know they’re going to come out with a massive tumble.

very much agree with everyone. the safety concern alone should allow for it
